How do I change my registered trademark name while maintaining the trademark logo?

I have a registered trademark name and logo. I would like to change the name, but still use the same trademark logo. Do I need to file a new trademark? I was told I could register the new name with the same logo and that I could own the same logo with two different names. Is that really so?
